| Welcome Welcome to the website of the Poundstock Gildhouse, where you will find news and pictures relating to the restoration of and events at our church house. St. Winwaloe is the parish church of Poundstock, situated in a secluded dell by a small atream. Alongside it stands its ancient Gildhouse - the best surviving example in Cornwall of a church house still in use. Church houses originally served as a meeting place for parish Gilds – part social clubs, part religious fraternities with members representing various trades. It is now a Grade 1 listed building. |

![]() The unique structure was built between the 15th and 16th centuries by skilled craftsmen using traditional techniques and materials such as cob, local stone and slate, it has served the local community in many ways over the centuries from bakehouse and brewery to poorhouse and schoolroom and in modern times as a place for year round activities, exhibitions and celebrations. In one corner of the ground floor there is a completely preserved little stable where the Schoolmistress used to keep her pony. Currently the building is showing its age, both structurally and in terms of its facilities. A considerable amount of restoration work is needed to make the building sound and update the facilities and access to the required standard. |

Once refurbished, this irreplaceable part of Poundstock's heritage has the potential to become the venue for a diverse and inclusive range of activities.
